The demand for Misingland represents the collective aspiration of the Mising people for a constitutionally recognized territorial and administrative framework that ensures democratic self-governance, equitable political representation, and the protection of indigenous identity. It is rooted in the principles of constitutional democracy, federalism, social justice, and the rights of indigenous communities to preserve and promote their distinct cultural, linguistic, and historical heritage.
For generations, the Mising people have made significant contributions to the social, cultural, and economic life of Assam while maintaining a rich legacy of indigenous traditions, customary institutions, and community-based governance. However, the community continues to face challenges relating to political representation, preservation of language and culture, protection of traditional lands and natural resources, recurrent displacement due to floods and erosion, and uneven socio-economic development.
LDCM believes that these challenges require durable institutional solutions. Accordingly, the organization advocates the creation of Misingland as a constitutionally recognized territorial and administrative framework aimed at institutionalizing democratic self-governance, safeguarding indigenous rights, ensuring political empowerment, and promoting inclusive and sustainable development.
